we are trying to buy a small strip of a neighbours' land to give our property a bit more privacy. The land (between Bergerac and Perigueux) is non-contructable, disused farmland and would be about 300 sq metres. Can anyone suggest what would be a fair price to offer? Thanks.

I would guess at around €5 per square metre would be a fair sum, but you will have to pay for the geometre's fees to mark out the land and also about €1000 for notaires fees

Yes, but if your neighbours know that you want the land - it becomes priceless. In the U.K. we would call it a ransom strip, which is self-explanatory.
